Sports Technology In the Spotlight

The New Jersey Tech Council will cover innovations in sports technology at its annual meeting, Wednesday, July 15, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at Forsgate Country Club in Monroe. For more information, visit www.njtc.org. Tickets are $75 members, $95 nonmembers.

A panel of leaders from major sports organizations will discuss technological advances in their industry. Panelists include Adam Davis, chief revenue officer at the Prudential Center and the New Jersey Devils hockey team, John Nisi, CTO at Microsoft, Joseph Stetson, vice president of marketing and communications at New York Red Bulls, and Wim Sweldens, founder of Kiswe Mobile.

Attendees should not expect to hear too much about “sabermetrics” or digital “K-zones” or other high tech innovations that are creeping into the field of play and player scouting. This panel’s credentials are weighted toward the business side of sports.

Davis, for example, oversees all of the Prudential Center’s and team’s revenue streams, including ticket sales and operations, premium sales and services, and corporate partnership sales and services. According to an event press release, Davis “overhauled the revenue-driving side of the business by combing all departments under one umbrella for the first time in the company’s history.” In the past year the “Prudential Center and the Devils’ corporate partnerships business has thrived. He oversaw a 20 percent increase in year-over-year new sponsorship revenue, while his team generated 16 new partnerships, including the company’s first suite-level naming rights deal with luxury vehicle Infiniti.”

Davis had previously spent six years at the Madison Square Garden Company, where he executed the first naming rights deal for the MSG Concert Series, generating over $16 million in new revenue. He was later responsible for the acquisition of MSG’s “Signature Partners” associated with the nearly $1 billion, top-to-bottom renovation of Madison Square Garden. During his time as vice president of transformation sales, MSG secured multi-year partnerships with several top-tier brands, including Lexus, Kia, SAP, Time Warner Cable and Ticketsnow.
