Eighteen months after California-based Ligand Pharmaceutical acquired Cranbury-based Pharmacopeia for $70 million, the company has closed its New Jersey facility and now operates in La Jolla and San Diego.

Ligand develops drugs for patients with muscle wasting, frailty, hormone-related diseases, osteoporosis, inflammatory diseases, and anemia. It acquired Pharmacopeia for its expertise in developing drugs for arthritis, psoriasis, and similar conditions.

The move-out follows a major round of layoffs here last March, when the company annunced its eventual move.
